Principles do not pay the bills

“It is a matter of principle”

Here at Frank G Whitworth we often hear the words “it is a matter of principle” when referring to debtors.

But be warned.

Principles can be expensive

Residential rent arrears are a classic example. Before taking your former tenant to Court to recover the outstanding rent, ask yourself this question:

“Am I wasting more money ?”

Is your former tenant likely to have any money.

If the answer is no, then consider putting the file to one side and waiting to see if the debtor has a change in circumstances.

The debt has a legal shelf life of 6 years. If, during this time the debtor comes into money, or gets a better job... then you can consider Court action with a better chance of a successful recovery of the debt.
